The Truth is What Works

Was in a meeting earlier and had one of those moments when you realize something you already knew...but didn't really grasp or know or realize or internalize until that moment.

The truth is what works.
"Truth is undeniable."
I've always felt that truth should be like the light of the sun. It will always, eventually, inexorably dawn...and that it can only be denied for so long.
Be it a crack underneath a door or a slit in cloud cover or whatever...the truth will dawn because as they say "time reveals all things."

For me, for just me, I can honestly say and look at my life and situations and experiences and see that drinking or escaping whatever-it-is through drugs or alcohol leads down an increasingly dark and hopeless path. That truth is progressive, true, and has no dissenting information I can find nor misshapen into a piece of denial for a faux file-drawer effect.

That I can say with 100% certainty. No experience or information suggests that will change. There is no dissenting information in the realm of what I can perceive.
In addition to that, is one other indisputable fact: the program as it is remains the only thing that has ever maintained sobriety for any lengh of time longer than perhaps a few days or weeks.

You can look for dissenting evidence or look at those who go back out, but then must ignore the reality that many have remained sober.
For me, for this individual, willpower, fear, meetings, prayer, in their isolation or combination in pairs never worked, but by doing a host of the things suggested I've maintained a daily reprieve from what can only be described as insanity.

This lends itself then to a basic truth: in life, in work, in friendship, in romance....if something is working for you, it is true. If in general, over a long enough period of time, it is a detractor in your life....you have your answer, your truth, your reality.
