Men are made my experience.
Women oft live in that world of how "things should be."
This begins at pretty much birth.
I see it in my girlfriends (well, most of them I've seen it).
They typically graduate without debt. A paid off car. Better yet, a parent still paying some or much of their bills. A credit card.
They've been to Europe, they've been to study abroad.
They've had the bank of mom and dad.
I say these things not in resentment but insomuch as you need to understand their world view is fundamentally different. They've worked not because they HAD to but to get their parents off their back.
They haven't counted their change to buy coffee.
They have always had a safety net.
Stop and think about how often women use this word "should."
It's a powerful frame of reference.
WE live in a time of social shaming as the major instrument of enforcing, or convincing others of the fantasy world based not in reality but in opinion and self-serving devotion.
They live in fantasy.
Anyone who talks about the "should" or "ought" is attempting to CONVINCE you to make things how they WANT them to be (IE: Fantasy Land).
If their talk of "should" is not coupled with clear and outright ACTION to change how things in fact objectively ARE, they are just one more complainer, whiner, hater, wisher and wanter out to convince others to conform to their world view without respect to reason nor fact nor reality nor a willingness to live by example and therefore laziness and cowardice.
Pain is oft the touchstone of growth and a life without pain, those who have not struggled lack compassion and empathy for exactly that reason.
They believe in the "just world" hypothesis in some misguided sense that the rules will always be followed again, SHOULD be followed by everyone....except they are only real in the sense that any contract is an agreement, oral or verbal....that exists so long as both sides agree.
Some of the things that have altered my world view:
- working many minimum wage jobs
- having a college degree but working two other jobs to make ends meet
- the first time you really get your ass kicked by a stranger (or 2 or 3)
- the first time you're arrested
- the first time you walk away from a woman as a matter of principle
- marriage
- divorce
- accepting the reality of women rather than the fairy tale you're brought up to believe
- quitting a job without a back-up plan
- sleeping in your car
- when you're down to your last bit of change with no back-up plan
- abortion
- rehab
- jail
